Background

coconut.png

Comunidade Hindu de Portugal developed from 1975 onwards, as a consequence of the decolonization of Mozambique, encompassing approximately 9000 members and around 800 efective members, residing in the metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Porto and, for the most part, coming from Mozambique and some from the State of Gujarat belonging to Portuguese India.

In 1982, its constitution was formalised, and in the meantime it has been granted the status of IPSS and Public Utility Legal Person.

Since then, this institution has been working hard to preserve its cultural and religious identity

with the aim of dignifying its members and supporters, offering them the necessary support

for better integration into the new socio-cultural context to which they had to abruptly

transfer their lives.

Comunidade Hindu de Portugal presents itself as a complete center open to different faiths, not only depository of the secular legacy of its tradition, the values of its culture, its humanist religion, but also a place of recreation, conviviality and friendship where the exchange of various cultures and solidarity can grow and bear fruit.
